About Alexa

Alexa Wheeler earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Texas at Austin. Her doctoral work researched the cognitive behaviors underlying substance use disorders as well as the impact of chronic drug use on neurobiological substrates in the brain. Alexa is an impassioned neuroscientist and science communicator, possessing deep expertise in neuroscience, addiction biology, drug pharmacology, and cognition.

Alexa is committed to making science accessible to the broader community. She has engaged in science communication in a wide range of written and spoken formats, including first-author peer-reviewed publications, federal grant narratives, public speaking engagements, K-12 teaching, and science policy writing for elected officials.
